There is a sculpture of Haitai beside the gate of Heungnyemun.
According to old stories, Haitai, an imaginary animal acts like a judge in people's disputes and hits with its horns those who are not right.
It signifies an ideal goal of the King of the Joseon Dynasty, the rightness and justice.

There is a sculpture of Chun-rok near the bridge.
It is an imaginary animal that drives out evil things.
It is guarding the palace from evil things coming through river flows.
It also gives a warning to people coming into the palace, to be honest and loyal to their King.
